Felt Sewing Book
We made this super cute felt sewing book at my Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPs) group last week. None of us really knew how to sew, so we were a little intimidated at first but it turned out to be an easy project for us - it's more embroidery than sewing. The craft is from the Martha Stewart website. I recommend clicking here to get detailed directions from her site.
For my sewing book, I used cream colored felt for the cover then some brown and blue felt for the inside pages. I bound the pages together with a simple running stitch along the center seam, then I cut out a heart in the cover and just did some simple cross stitching around the heart and along the edges of the book. Find a fun button in your stash and sew it on for the tab closure. On the inside pages, place a few needles, safety pins, straight pins, thread, a needle threader, and maybe a few spare buttons.
These would make cute handmade gifts for family and friends who are gifted at sewing, or for those of us who can always use a sewing kit for the bottom of our purses, just in case we need to mend something on the go. Happy stitching! -Kristen
